There are many organizations working on millets production, processing, value addition, promotion and related policy frameworks. Some of these are not for profit and many work under a for-profit social venture banner. The Indian Institute for Millet Research and Sahaja Samruddha organized a two day workshop at the IIMR campus in Rajendranagar, Hyderabad on 8th and 9th of May to bring many of the various stakeholders together on one platform to discuss the developments, exchange experiences and to come up with plans for collaborative initiatives to better benefit farmers and consumers.
It was a great experience to meet with some stalwarts of the field of sustainable agriculture and some sharp young minds driven by their belief in social and environmental justice. These are the folks sweating it out to bring about a positive change in the lives of many and it was a privilege to have had the opportunity to discuss with them and to get to know them better. The proceedings of and the plans that evolved from the deliberations shall be shared shortly. For now, here is the presentation I shared in the session on Processing and Nutrition.
